Reunited, & It Feels So Good

Last night I stayed up late reading. In my mind I knew I should be a responsible adult & go to bed, but my heart told me to take advantage. It’s been awhile since I devoured a book so I resisted sleep for as long as I could, specifically until 1:30am. Goodbye reading slump! For those that are curious, I’m currently reading Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco. It is the sequel to Stalking Jack the Ripper, and I am loving it so far. Speaking of books, my family visited Barnes & Noble Sunday night. I always know how depressed I will be looking at all the books I can’t afford, but I go anyway. My parents were kind enough to buy me a new book. THANK YOU!!!!! I chose Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero, a novel I’ve been dying to read for months. I am a HUGE Scooby-Doo fan so I hope this mystery gang-inspired story lives up to my expectations. In regard to my Tuesday agenda, I am currently blogging on my typewriter while watching my favorite Almanzo & Laura episodes of Little House on the Prairie. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. Happy Tuesday! :)

Lazy Winter Days

The holiday season is officially over, and I have yet to start my Christmas do-over. My work schedule was supposed to slow down, but I’ve been receiving extra hours & shifts. On one hand it’s a nuisance because I was looking forward to days of rest, but on the other hand I desperately need the money. I can no longer afford to “play” instead of work, which is why kids should never be in a hurry to grow up. Adulthood isn’t all bad, but it definitely isn’t as carefree as childhood. Anyway, I’m not here to rant about the struggles of adult life. I was blessed with a couple of days off from my retail job so I’m taking full advantage. Yesterday I did nothing, and it was pure bliss. I may have snuck in an hour or two of work in the evening, but most of the day was dedicated to binge-watching El Barco. After a refreshing night’s sleep, I started the day with a pumpkin frappuccino & a pumpkin bagel. I am currently watching season three, episode one of El Barco and blogging with my new Elretron typewriter. It uses Bluetooth to connect to my iPad, but the keys look, feel, & sound like I’m back in the 1800s. I get the best of the old & the new! I never invest in anything on Indiegogo, but this one time I’m glad I did. Once I’ve used it consistently, I will be putting together a full review so watch out for that. I go back to work tomorrow so I’m off to enjoy the rest of my semi-lazy Thursday. If you’re still on a holiday break/vacation, enjoy the rest of your time off. :)

Those Summer Nights

It’s that time of year folks, the time when earth feels like it’s roasting inside a sauna over the flames of hell. When I’m not concealing sweat at work, I’m sitting in front of a fan at home pretending I live in a colder climate. Not only is it hot, but California is rain-free, dry, and on high alert for fires. Fun times! Now that I’ve brought you up to speed on the weather report, prepare yourself for a story eerily similar to one I told one year ago. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, click the following link and study up:

https://laurenmichelelifestyle.wordpress.com/2015/04/09/the-big-bad-june-bug-attack-of-2015/

The night was June 21, 2016 and the time approximately midnight. The night air was refreshingly cool. The window was open and the fan blasting. I was spread out on the couch preparing to enjoy some therapy a-la-Netflix. In one moment, my seemingly perfect summer night came screeching to a halt. I heard the haunting buzz of a large insect and wasted no time in jumping off the couch and turning on the light. As soon as I did so, I caught sight of movement in the window. The volume of my voice raised slightly as I exclaimed that there was a bug inside the house. He was not very happy with my actions because next thing I know he’s flying at me. I ran down the stairs yelling “NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!” My mom came out of her bedroom to see what was going on, and my dad expressed concern from the comfort of his bed. Armed with a shoe and Lysol, I made my mom accompany me while I checked every single window in the house. I was not about to sleep with a huge bug on the loose!! After many tears and a panic attack, I shut myself in my room (after numerous inspections) and did my best to sleep despite intense anxiety and a migraine. The next day my mom informed me that she had found a dead June bug in her bedroom. I felt immediate deja vu. What is it with my mom and I fighting June bugs??!!!

Don’t you just love summer?? 😡

Life of an Insomniac

Oh. My. Gosh. I have slept so well these past few weeks. Of course that couldn’t last long. The United States recently sprung forward one hour, and all my precious hours of sleep crashed & burned. I thought I hated “Spring Forward” before, but in this moment, I absolutely 100% despise it. I have tried all of my usual tricks: early bedtime, lavender spray, eucalyptus spearmint lotion, and reading a book. Nothing is working!!!!! I am beyond exhausted. I have so many goals set in place for my blogs and Youtube channel, but working this past week has felt like beating my head against a wall. I need sleep to function!! I’m not fun to be around when I’m tired. Actually, I’m not fun to be around when I’m well rested so scratch that last sentence. ;) Hopefully tonight will bring peaceful sleep. I need my rest. I’m seeing “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” with my brother tomorrow. Exciting!!

I know the holiday is basically over, but I wish you all a belated Chag Purim Sameach!!

Moving On

Moving On

On Monday I left Texas, my home of 13 years. My family’s 6-bedroom house provided shelter to 26 people, not including me, my parents, and my brother; I always had extended family around me. On Tuesday I arrived in California, my new home; my family currently lives in a one-bedroom apartment above a garage. Quite the adventure we are on!! The picture you see above is my room, an empty room bursting at the seams full of memories. It is amazing to recall all the things that took place in that space: Babysitting, beauty transformations, concerts, counseling, dance practice, dreams, doll shenanigans, dramatic dress up, DVD viewings, emotional breakdowns, exercise sessions, fashion shows, fights, hide-and-seek, 2+ hour phone calls, illness rehabilitation, internet browsing, late night reading, outfit planning, schoolwork, and sleepovers. One last thing: Me and my best friend Gabby officially became friends in that room thanks to “Lord of the Beans.” I moved to Texas when I was 8, and I am now 21. My middle school, junior high, high school, and college years took place in that state. Many different struggles and transitions took place in that house; perhaps now you have a better idea of why it is so special to me. It is bittersweet to move on, but I will always carry the memories with me in my heart.

Treasure each moment readers! You never know when you will be uprooted and replanted.

I Need Coffee!!!

Starbucks Nelson, Mitchell. Starbucks Illustrations. 2011. Web. 15 Apr. 2015. <https://www.behance.net/gallery/Starbucks-Campaign/2142577>.

Just in case you did not understand the title: I need coffee!!!!!!!!!! There is some repairs going on in my family’s house. One of the bathrooms being worked on is in my bedroom therefore I had to get up early in order to accommodate the workers. WHY WHY WHY??? This is so cruel. Waking up at 9am is not okay with me. I feel like a zombie. As you can tell, I am having a dramatic morning, which is why I am blogging. Drama is so much more amusing. Well, from your point of view. I am not so amused at the moment. I could be encouraged with, oh I don’t know, maybe some COFFEE. A muffin would also be lovely. The funny thing is I drink decaf coffee so my need is not so much for caffeine as it is for taste. The taste of (flavored) coffee energizes me. Sorry! I am not a purist. If anyone is curious, my current staple drinks at Starbucks are hazelnut frappuccinos (Tall, decaf, sugar free, soy) and iced caramel macchiatos (Tall, decaf, iced, soy).

Have a great day readers. Drink some coffee in honor of me! Please & thank you.

11:35 am Update: I got my tall, decaf, sugar free, iced, soy caramel macchiato and a blueberry muffin. Yay!!

The Big Bad June Bug Attack of 2015

The Big Bad June Bug Attack of 2015 (Source: http://images.tbd.com/communities/2010-0923-bedbug-freelance_606.jpg)

Before I tell my terrifying tale, I want you to see a real June bug. Prepare yourself!!

June Bug (Source: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/newsrel/garden/JuneBeetle.jpg)

I was listening to Pandora and typing a blog post, and my mom was sleeping. Suddenly she shrieked and covered herself completely with blankets. “Do you hear that?!! Where is that buzzing coming from?!!” She scared me half to death! “What buzzing? I don’t hear anything!” She jumped out of bed and turned on the light. I immediately saw a large bug flying through the air and threw myself off the bed screaming. She ran inside the bathroom and shut the door, leaving me to fend for myself. I got back onto the bed, grabbed a pillow, and continued to scream anytime the bug came near me. I should add that I crawled back and forth across the bed numerous times. Unexpected cardio. Eventually my mom emerged from the bathroom with her weapon of choice raised in the air: a plunger. “Where is it??!” Thankfully it had landed, and she easily captured it underneath the plunger. On closer inspection, we identified the attacker as a june bug A.K.A. THE DEVIL!!! After a few seconds of waiting and panicking, my mom did the next logical thing: attempt to plunge the bug to death. It actually worked! She smashed it with a flip flop for good measure, but the plunger was the real hero of the hour. The bug was flushed, appropriate considering how he died, and order was restored. Almost. Me and my mom were able to go to sleep, but there was definitely some paranoia. I think this goes without saying, but I HATE bugs!! Hopefully tonight is less eventful. Have a great day readers!

Blogmas 2014 – Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Good evening readers. I am feeling especially rested today after my NyQuil-induced sleep last night. That stuff should be illegal!! Though I am not yet 100%, I am feeling well enough to listen to Christmas music and write a Blogmas post. I am not sure if you remember this, but I tried out life as a Youtuber earlier this year. After my college graduation, I decided to take a break because I was not feeling as excited about it as I was when I started. Today, out of the blue, someone commented on one of my videos and requested a makeup tutorial. I know it is only ONE comment, but as a small Youtuber, it is both an accomplishment and motivation. Sooo… I am thinking about going back to Youtube and filming the requested makeup tutorial as well one or two special Christmas videos. I will let you know when that happens so that you can tune in if the videos interest you. Perhaps this time around my perfectionist ways will not alter my personality. :P

I hope all of you are having a very merry Christmas thus far. Surprisingly I am having a very difficult time getting into the Christmas spirit. I am currently dealing with a lot of changes and emotions so that could be the cause. I also blame the “Sunny all the time” California weather. Not Christmasy at all!! I need to remedy this problem because time is running out. I started my Christmas festivities way back in October, and I still feel like time went by too fast. I might have to start in September next year!!

That is all for now. Stay merry readers!

– Lauren Michele :)

“Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there

The children were nestled all snug in their beds

And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap

Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.”

– “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, Clement Clarke Moore

Rosh Hashanah 2014

Rosh Hashanah 2014

Shalom readers!! I will keep this post short and “sweet” (PUN INTENDED) in honor of the Jewish New Year celebration. I am feeling very grateful today because my recovery from [wisdom teeth] surgery has been, for the most part, smooth sailing. There have been moments of pain and discomfort, but the exchange was sleep and ice cream. Do I really have cause to complain?? I may not be part of an elaborate Rosh Hashanah celebration, but I am celebrating in my heart. I have one favor to ask: I am restricted from eating anything but soft foods for obvious reasons. Will someone please eat challah and something made from apples for me?? Please & thank you.

In honor of my Sephardic ancestors, I leave you with this Ladino greeting: “Anyada Buena, para munchos anyos.”

“Have a good year for many years.”

L’shanah Tovah readers!!
