For once, I completed my reading goal with time to spare & exceeded it by two. I set my goal at 55 and completed 57 books. Yay! 🎉 Now for the semi-disappointing news: I didn’t complete the Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge. I could beat myself up, but reading is supposed to be fun, not a competition. Not all of the 2018 challenges matched up with what I wanted to read last year, and that is okay.

Reunited, & It Feels So Good

Last night I stayed up late reading. In my mind I knew I should be a responsible adult & go to bed, but my heart told me to take advantage. It’s been awhile since I devoured a book so I resisted sleep for as long as I could, specifically until 1:30am. Goodbye reading slump! For those that are curious, I’m currently reading Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco. It is the sequel to Stalking Jack the Ripper, and I am loving it so far. Speaking of books, my family visited Barnes & Noble Sunday night. I always know how depressed I will be looking at all the books I can’t afford, but I go anyway. My parents were kind enough to buy me a new book. THANK YOU!!!!! I chose Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero, a novel I’ve been dying to read for months. I am a HUGE Scooby-Doo fan so I hope this mystery gang-inspired story lives up to my expectations. In regard to my Tuesday agenda, I am currently blogging on my typewriter while watching my favorite Almanzo & Laura episodes of Little House on the Prairie. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. Happy Tuesday! :)

The Last Jedi | Blogmas 2017

⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: My intention is not to spoil the movie for you, but spoilers are hard to avoid once you’ve seen and want to talk about it. You have been warned! ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️

I recently saw Star Wars: The Last Jedi and loved it, but I’m still dealing with a lot of feelings. The severity of my emotions caught me off guard, and it wasn’t just because of Carrie Fisher’s death, although that sadness is still very fresh. This is the end of an era, a transition from the old to the new. I’m excited about the next generation of characters, but that doesn’t make the change any easier. When the twins reunited, Luke said the words “No one’s ever really gone” as he placed Han’s dice in Leia’s hand. From that point on, I couldn’t stop crying. That one poignant moment sums up my experience with this film. I know that’s a really short statement about a really big movie, but I honestly can’t bring myself to say anything more.

Moment of Weakness | Blogmas 2017

It finally happened. My Scrooge veneer cracked, and I shed a Christmas tear. Yes, it was a cheesy Hallmark movie. No, I don’t feel any shame. It might’ve had something to do with staying up until 3am the night before, but we’ll ignore that detail and say that I was overcome by the spirit of December. I also want to give credit where credit is due. Finding Santa was a good movie, and that’s saying a lot considering I don’t often enjoy a new offering from Hallmark, otherwise known as Christmas Incorporated. 😂 I’ll add to the good news by announcing the arrival of grandma’s cookies. See?! December isn’t a total loss yet. My elf ears are starting to perk up, and we still have a little over one week of celebration left. 🎉

Can’t Help Falling in Love

Three months ago this blog post was 75% complete and well on its way to being published.  Despite my August deadline, I was feeling uninspired and decided to walk away for reflection.  I missed the opportunity to connect this post to August, “Romance Awareness Month”, but I would much rather publish content I am proud of than meet deadlines for the sake of being clever.  That being said, allow me to set the stage for this project that has been a labor of love (HA!).  Back in April, I made two collages of Gilbert Blythe and Anne Shirley from “Anne of Green Gables” in honor of Jonathan Crombie.  When I found out August was “Romance Awareness Month” (who knew?!!), I immediately put my Photoshop skills to work and made collages for my favorite TV and movie couples.  This project is near and dear to my heart.  The couples I have chosen are fictional, but their stories inspire me because they have substance.  Personally, I am not fond of glorifying the physicality of relationships.  Less is more!  I recently watched the BBC miniseries “North & South” for the first time.  The main characters do not interact romantically until the last few minutes of the series, and yet I felt tension and passion throughout; I did not need to see more in order to empathize.  It was absolutely brilliant!  I strongly believe purity and subtlety go a long way, much further than graphic details.  We should all have high standards and use the term “love” with caution.  Go ahead and call me a “hopeless romantic”; I accept that label with open arms.  :)

Prairie Christmas

littlehousechristmas_dvd_lg

I am sitting in the TV room with my mom catching up on Christmas movies and specials, and I can’t help but shed a tear.  Christmas is coming to an end.  I hate that the best time of year has to end, but I suppose it must.  Moving on to happier thoughts, here is my December 22nd favorite:

What is your favorite holiday TV episode?  Back in my childhood days, I would put my hair in two braids and skip around with a pretend lunch pail.  I even attached two belts to a chair and created my own buckboard (a.k.a. a wagon).  I was practically Laura Ingalls, minus Almanzo Wilder.  Years later and I am still watching Little House on the Prairie and dreaming of such a life.  After all that, it is easy to deduce what TV show my favorite holiday TV episode comes from.  The episode title is “A Christmas They Never Forgot.”  The synopsis is as follows: The Ingalls, Kendall, and Wilder families are gathered for Christmas along with Hester Sue.  They get snowed in at the Ingalls homestead and spend the night reliving memories from Christmases past.  The episode is charming and wholesome, as is expected from the beloved show; it also reveals unknown details about Almanzo Wilder, Caroline Ingalls, and Hester Sue.  Diehard fans are given an opportunity to connect on an even deeper level with the characters.  If you are an LHOTP fan and crave nostalgia, this is the episode for you.

Stay merry readers!  Only 3 more days until Christmas…
