On a day that is dedicated to giving thanks, I want to draw attention to a video I just watched.  For those who don’t know, the band “Eagles of Death Metal” recently spoke about what happened at their concert in Paris.

* * * I don’t want to take away from the emotion of the interview, but if you are around small children, there is some language in the video.

Eagles of Death Metal Discuss Paris Terror Attacks

My heart breaks for the band and crew members that survived because what they saw and who they lost will forever affect them.  I want Dave, Eden, Jesse, Josh, Julian, Matt, and anyone else involved to know that they are in my prayers.  I am only one person, but it is important to show that no matter what people around the world are going through, there are others who are aware of and care about what is taking place.

If you would like to send messages of encouragement to Eagles of Death Metal, here are their social media links:

I want to share an expression that is used by Jewish people when someone passes away.  In honor of the lives that have been lost in 2015, may their memory be a blessing!

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord!  Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.  Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.  For the Lord is the great God, and the great King above all gods.”  Psalm 95:1-3

Happy Thanksgiving readers!  I hope you have a safe, blessed day.

Christmas Decorations & A Food Coma

Children decorating a Christmas tree

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and first night of Chanukah.  I spent a cozy day at home cooking green bean casserole and mashed potatoes, eating upstairs with my mom, and watching 3 holiday movies courtesy of Hallmark channel; the night ended with a family Skype session and Chanukah prayers.  Today has been just as good.  I slept in and ate yummy leftovers.  Not too shabby!  I am thankful that my “food coma” was less severe this year; I did my very best to practice self-control, as much as humanly possible on Thanksgiving.  What are my plans for the rest of the day?  Decorating for Christmas, listening to Christmas music, watching Christmas movies, and saying the Chanukah blessings.  Stay tuned for a Chanukah-themed post coming very soon.

While at church last night, I was reminded that Thanksgiving contains not only “Thanks” but also “Giving.”  The entire world has suffered innumerable and unfathomable tragedies this past year.  Please give of your holiday time and ask God to comfort those battling overwhelming circumstances.  It is not enough to be thankful when times are good; faith requires thankfulness when times are bad.

Happy Thanksgiving and Chanukah sameach!

Dazed & Confused

Nothing+great+was+ever+achieved+without+enthusiasm.+copy

The title is not a reference to the movie but rather my current state of mind.  Do you ever have one of those days where productivity is necessary but taking the first step is as difficult as traveling the world in 80 days?  For me, today is that day.  I have done everything but attack my homework with determination.  Unfortunately, I feel like I am getting sick and am physically exhausted and ready for a much needed vacation.  I only have four more weeks left, but it may as well be four months.  Here I am staring down a pile of homework that needs to get done, and my mind is distracted from exhaustion and illness and holiday season excitement.  Who can think when there are books to read and movies to cry about and songs to belt out?

Well, time to suck it up and get to work.  My goal: surviving until Thanksgiving break, which starts next Wednesday.

1 month, 6 days, 4 hours, and 37 minutes until Christmas.  Stay merry!!!

“Brown Paper Packages Tied up With Strings”

…”These are a few of my favorite things!!!”  By the title, you may have immediately realized that my early Christmas shopping efforts paid off; brown packages have started to grace my doorstep with their holiday presence.  The anticipation of wrapping and giving them away is “killing” me.  Thankfully I have a Christmas countdown, Christmas music, and Christmas movies to keep me busy and distracted.  I have some fun Christmas blogs planned for next thirty nine days (if you do not know the significance of that number, start following my Christmas countdown on Pinterest and/or Tumblr).  The themes may include book recommendations, food, music, movie recommendations, and shopping tips; there might even be a live blog or two.

Stay tuned for more holiday cheer from Lauren Michele Photography/Poetry!!!
